Chances are if you have recently seen pictures of cute kids, couples in love, wedding pictures or adorable families, Robyn Gallaway was the photographer. Robyn is an Island photographer who has an eye for capturing beautiful images and making memories last on film. I have had the pleasure of getting family shots done with Robyn and not only is she an amazing photographer but a gem to be around. I sat down with Robyn to discuss her busy schedule and what made her get into the photographer business.

1. When did you realize that you had a passion for photography? Was there a certain event or moment that made you realize this talent/passion you have?

I have always loved photography, ever since I was a young girl I always took lots of pictures. A few years ago I took up the idea of getting a camera as it was a dream of mine. My fiancé surprised me with camera and I just started out taking pictures of friends, because I was so passionate about it. I was reading up on line about photography and the different techniques. Soon enough I had people emailing me about taking photos.

2. What is your favorite thing to photograph?

Yes, I love taking pictures of couples. I like to ask them to tell stories about each other. I might ask them what their favorite thing about each other is or what is the thing that drives you nuts about each other. The thing that I like about it is it’s not posing and sitting. I enjoy getting the natural reactions from them. Families are a lot of fun too, but couples are my favorite.

3. What is something about yourself that not a lot of people know?

I am really bad eater, the unhealthiest eater. I love fried food and chocolate, anything unhealthy. I could live off of Big Mac’s and Double Cheeseburgers.

4 .What type of equipment do you use?

I use Nikon equipment. I have a one main camera, my Nikon D7000. I also have a Nikon D3100, which is my backup camera.

5. Where would you like to see yourself in 10 years in the photography world?

I would to be similar to where I am now. I don’t see myself making it that huge, because I really like to keep it fun and enjoyable. Teaching is another passion of mine and I am going to continue to that. So in order to do both, I would like to keep it the way it is now.

6. Favorite photography memory?

I did a wedding last August and it was for a young couple. They were a really sweet couple and it was just the best day. I barley knew these people and during the reception I was crying. It was just such a sweet day and there were so many fun people to be around. That day would have to be my favorite memory.

7.What can we expect from you in 2012?

I am not fully booked but I am getting there. I tired to go easy on myself but I am getting busy.  So lots of pictures! I already have 8 weddings booked for the summer of 2013.

8. Final thoughts?

I am really excited on how far I have come in the last couple of years. I am so grateful for the support from my friends and family. I am also so thankful for the support from clients and people I don’t even know who enjoy my work. The most rewarding part of the job is meeting people on the street and they recognize my work. Thank you for the support!
