Who: Elisapie Issac- CAPACOA/ Paquin artist showcase
Where: The Rivoli, Toronto ON
When: January 25th, 2013
Crowd: Elisapie Issac was lucky enough to have the middle spot in the evening showcase.  She got the best of both worlds (industry heavy’s and local fans).   People had filtered in from the cold and were sipping their second or third drink by this point.   Elisapie had a very attentive audience and she did not disappoint.
Style: Who is Elisapie Issac? This Canadian born pop singer, broadcaster, documentary filmmaker and activist is an award winning film maker and Juno Award winning musician.   You can find traces of Inuk and French in Elisapie’s music.   I would best describe her as a unique blend of sultry folk pop.
Technicalities: Very tight backing band and brilliant sound that increased in quality as the set progressed.
Memorable Moment: When Elisapie dedicated her 3rd song Arnaapik to her daughter.  Sang in her native tongue of Inuk, I had no idea what she was saying, but because of it’s beauty I didn’t have to.
Memorable Song: “The Love You Gave To Me” from her latest effort Traveling Love, is deeper than your modern pop song without getting lost in metaphors.  With lines like “Take me away from the storm, Make me feel like you made me feel before don’t just take it easy”, the song is reminiscent of the best of the 70’s love songs.   It reminded me of “James Taylor” or ‘The Eagles” and how could there be anything wrong with that.
Image/Sex Appeal: Its hard to ignore the stage when Elisapie Issac is on it.  She has a strong command of the mic and all the hotness to captures your imagination.
Comments:Â Fantastic vocal harmonies! Worth watching live.
