Who: The Beauties – CAPACOA/ Paquin artist showcase
Where: The Rivoli, Toronto ON
When: January 25th, 2013

Crowd: Half of the industry types filed out before the set to catch some rest for the last day of the annual CAPACOA conference.   However, the fans weren’t going anywhere and once the band started no one left.   The industry types who stuck around seemed pleasantly surprised by the crowd reaction as people finally started to loosen up, creating a make shift dance floor that lasted until the end of the set.

Style: Rock n Roll meets real Country.

Technicalities: The  Rivloli always sounds good with Lorne Hounsell at the helm.    The lights seemed to kick it up a notch as the set progressed.    Finally, Derek Downham is undeniably one of the best drummers in Toronto.

Memorable Moment:  This one is obvious as the band invited fellow Canuck legend Barney Bentall of “Barney Bentall and the Legendary Hearts” to play his well known classic “Come Back To Me”.    “Did we just see Barney Bentall and Fred Penner on the same stage tonight?” announced Downham to the crowd followed by scattered applause.

Memorable Song: Definitely “Play with Fire”, The Beauties did this early Stones cover fine justice with Downham leading on vocals.

Image/Sex Appeal: Very down to earth Toronto boys with an alt-Country look and an Urban feel.

Comments:  The Beauties and it’s members have been a staple on the Toronto music scene for years.  You can catch them almost every Sunday at The Dakota Tavern.
