Is there a hole in your heart? Are you in need of a companion to go alongside loneliness? Is there a tear in your beer? If so, you may have just found a fantastic reason to keep crying. Daniel Romano, a thriving southern (Ontario) country sensation. All of the best country music seems to ooze dejection, downheartedness and despondency and Daniel does it damn well. His latest album ‘Come Cry With Me’ is drenched in drama, chickens and sadness. Fans of the titans of unadulterated classic country will be smitten with Daniel Romano’s traditional and pure country compositions. This album seems to have been transported from some honky-tonk in the late 1960’s.
Romano has a striking commitment to his art. If you are lucky enough to see his live shows, you will almost certainly see him looking melancholy, while adorned in elaborate sequined and or flowery cowboy get ups, singing about lost love. You are also likely to see Aaron Goldstein with a ten Gallon hat and snakeskin cowboy boots playing gorgeous pedal steel. His playing is an essential part of this album and the country sound created on it. This album is all the more impressive in that this towering country sound was recorded in Daniel’s basement. The album has a wonderful compositional harmony, not to mention angelic women background singers contrasting Romano’s beautiful rich baritone. My favorite songs on this album include ‘Chicken Bill’, ‘That’s the Very Moment’ and ‘Middle Child’ and ‘Two Pillow Sleeper’. Anyone who loves Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, and Stompin Tom will be guaranteed to revel in the magnificent amount of heartache rooted in this album. Come Cry with Daniel Romano right here.
