Nadezhda Tolokonnikova of the Pussy Riot was admitted into a prison hospital Sunday night after one week of hunger strike. Protest against inhumane working conditions inside prison.

Pussy Riot bandmate, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, has been admitted into a prison hospital after a week of being on a hunger strike. She began the hunger strike Sept. 23, and according to The Associated Press Tolokonnikova’s husband, Pyotr Verzilov, said she was moved to the hospital Sunday  night.

The punk activist decided to go on a hunger strike last week as a way of protesting the inhumane working conditions in the Russian penal colony where she is imprisoned. In addition, she has said that a prison official made a death threat against her.

Tolokonnikova and her bandmates were sentenced to two years in prison in 2012. The sentencing occurred following the band’s protest against President Vladmir Putin inside Moscow`s main Orthodox cathedral.

Although Tolokonnikova’s lawyers have been forbidden to speak or visit her since Thursday, she wrote a note to her husband that was then distributed last week.

“I will do this until the administration starts obeying the law and stops treating incarcerated women like cattle,” she says in the note.
