Scott Ian Interview – Speaking Words Tour

Scott Ian Interview – Speaking Words Tour

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian sits down with Giancarlo Cortez from The Scene Magazine for a blast interview- questions about Shadows Fall, The Big Four, New Album and Spoken Word.

Scott Ian Spoken Word Interview

Last month, legendary Anthrax guitarist, author and television personality SCOTT IAN announced that he was taking his  “Speaking Words” tour on the road in North America, beginning in Chicago, IL on February 20th.

Ian’s tour will touch down in Toronto tomorrow night at the El Mocambo.

Scene: Tell us about your show?
Scott: What do you wanna know?

Scene: What kind of stories are you gonna be telling us about?
Scott: A lot funny stories and experiences. All this crazy shit that you can’t really make up.

Scene: Do practice your show at home?
Scott: Hahaha no!

Scene: Is it just improvised? How do you do it?
Scott: I just do it. Spending time in my house talking into a mirror would be the stupidest thing I could think of. I get on stage and I’m in front of a crowd and I kind of react to the audience and I just get up there and do it.

Scene: You been around for almost 30 years so you must have a lot to talk about.
Scott: Yeah, there’s a wealth of material let’s put it that way.

Scene: Tell me about the new album. How many songs have you written so far?
Scott: We got around 14 songs. Some are finished, some are not finished.

Scene: Is Jon Donais from Shadows Fall  a permanent member of Anthrax or is he just touring with you guys?
Scott: Nothing is permanent. He’s in Anthrax… Take that however you wanna take it.

Scene: When are you going to hit the studio?
Scott: When we’re happy with the songs we have written.

Scene: What’s up with the big four? Are you gonna do it? Do you have any information about it?
Scott:  No.. Nothing. I don’t know why people think I would have answers to that. I think it’s pretty obvious if you wanted info about the big four there’s one band  (Enter Sandman) that you should ask that question to.  It’s not Anthrax let’s put it that way.  I have no information on the big four.

Scene: Thanks you so much for your time Scott good luck on tour and we’ll see you soon.
Scott:  Thank you.. you know, spread the word and I’ll see you there.

Standup Against Domestic Violence

What I love the most about comedy in Toronto, is the other comics. Spending time with them, working with them, picking each others’ brains. I see comics more than I see my own friends or family, hands down. There’s a sense of community here, it’s why we call it a “scene” (not just to sound like musicians).

There’s a way comics relate to each other that we never will with anyone else, we never could. And when the situation calls for it, there’s strength in numbers. Toronto comedy, when we’re at our best and the egos are set aside, we’re something like a bigger family

When I came to this town in 2011, the standup scene here took me in, and welcomed me with open arms (and stage time!) And I noticed something then, that I’ve seen time and time again since – comics will stand up for each other, and rally around when it’s needed. We’ll work together. We’ll have each others’ backs

Which brings me to this show…
In our city right now, there’s a mother of 3 who is fighting and working to start a new life. She’s trying to escape domestic violence, and start fresh in a safe new space where she can focus on raising her family, and free herself from a situation of abuse. The comedy scene is hoping to help!
THIS THURSDAY (Feb 27) at 7:30pm, a well-known venue, a mainstay on the Toronto comedy scene, The Flying Beaver Pubaret will be playing host to an important night of comedy. A show with a mission…

A local favorite, Winnipeg export Aisha Alfa (MTV Canada, George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight) will be hosting a lineup of some of the city’s top comics, to raise money to help give a strong mother in our city the support and safe new start she needs!

Tickets are just $10 in advance ($15 at the door), for two very valuable things.

First, a show that guarantees an unforgettable night well spent. And 2 (this is the important part) ALL proceeds will go towards first & last month’s rent in a new apartment, and a new life for this family!
Join Aisha, along with some of her funniest friends on the scene…

JOSH ELIJAH (Fox & The Fiddle Uptown, MTV’s Losing It)
PRECIOUS CHONG (The Groundlings L.A, CBC Radio)
KENNY ROBINSON (YUK YUKS’ Nubian Disciples, The Rank & Vile Tour)
DAVE MERHEJE (MTV Live, Just for Laughs, Boston Comedy Festival)
KATE DAVIS (Comedy Now, CBC’s The Debaters)

WHEN: Thurs Feb 27th at 7:30pm
WHERE: The Flying Beaver Pubaret (488 Parliament St)
WHAT: comedy show with all money raised going to a strong mother of three escaping domestic violence in our community. She has been trying to find a safe place to live and is finding roadblocks, sketchy abusive landlords and financial issues along the way. This event will help raise money towards first and last month’s rent an an apartment where she can live safely with her kids and start a new life.

TICKETS: $10 in advance, $15 at the door

Skydiggers on tour announce Toronto dates and more

Skydiggers announce slow burnin fire tour 2014

On the heels of a very successful 25th Anniversary year in 2013 which saw the band release four albums over the course of 12 months, Skydiggers are pleased to announce the Slow Burnin’ Fire Tour 2014, featuring the return of co-founder and songwriter / vocalist Peter Cash to the national stage with the band for the first time in 18 years.
