Weather Permitting Tour

Get it? It’s like the name of that sitcom Ryan Reynolds started (and peaked) on. Speaking of rising young Canadian comedy stars… These three hosebags. (Eh, hosers) are rising like Goddamn beavertails dough.

The ‘WEATHER PERMITTING COMEDY TOUR‘ is about as Canadian as it gets, bud. Right friggin’ Canadian. This tour couldn’t be more Canadian if it featured Luba Goy from Air Farce and Gordon Pincent, travelling around on mooseback handing out Timbits in every town mentioned in a Stompin’ Tom song.

Those references couldn’t be more Canadian if they were written on the side of a friggin’ Zamboni that was driving around on a hockey rink made out of frozen Maple Syrup while Chris Hadfield sings Tragically Hip covers. By the way, that begs the question… how is Canada’s biggest rock star right now an acoustic guitar strummin’ astronaut with a Ned Flanders ‘stache? Which also begs another question – why isn’t Bobcaygeon recognized as our defacto national anthem?

The Weather Permitting Comedy Tour (sponsored by Westowne Mazda) kicks off November 12th in Timmins. A city of 750,000 (give or take) known as the ‘Propane Capitol of the World!’ and as the birthplace of Zoodles. Canned provisions are the lynch pin of the local cuisine, right up there with locally farmed wolf milk and coal bread. Eco tourism is the backbone of the Timmins economy, primarily ¨sinkhole gazing¨. Every year, dozens of Canadians from coast to coast, and our neighbors from the nearby nation of Quebec, flock to the street (no plural) of Timmins to take selfies in front of the massive and essentially unexplainable sinkholes that have opened up in random locations throughout the downtown core.

Of course, I’m not known for my research skills and there’s a good possibility that none of the preceeding statements are in fact true. The Weather Permitting tour really is weather permitting. Three intrepid young Toronto comics, setting out on the open road to conquer the harsh realities of Canada’s Great White North! Like a trio of Dick Jokes Lewis & Clarks, conquering pubs, clubs & legion halls from lake to frozen lake. All in the trusty Mazda entrusted to them by the plum neighborly folks down at Westowne Mazda (pictured below)

I suggested they nickname it the MIRTH mobile, and install a big ol’ Canadian moose jerky dispenser in it. They threatened to shiv me with a broken bottle of Molson Export. Yeeesh, take it easy buds. Let’s meet our brave young comics!

Michelle Christine

MICHELLE CHRISTINE! Scrappy, plucky & happy-go-lucky. Michelle runs the cult comedy room Monday nights down at the Ooooooh so trendy Ossington. She’s also the producer/MC of the seasonal standup showcase ‘Let’s Laugh’ down at Toronto’s famous Comedy Bar. Michelle’s hobbies include returning Yorkshire terriers to their natural habitat, the woods. As pictured above

Andrew Barr

ANDREW BARR! He doesn’t smoke darts, but boy can he throw ’em. Featured on ichannel’s No Kidding and MTV Canada, Andrew’s one of the most respected young crowd killers on the Toronto comedy scene. He’s also well known for his strangely symmetrical keister

Michael Flamank

MICHAEL FLAMANK! Aka ‘That Mike Guy’. The Flamank is known as a well rounded young man, and an ace producer. His 2-year stint on the mainstage at Comedy Bar with ‘Comical’ saw a packed house every month. A little bit hip hop, a little bit crowd work, Michael’s a man of many projects

It’s shaping up to be an incredible journey for these bright eyed pups! Trekking out into a prematurely snowy sea of small towns and bright lights big cities. What will they find out there? Tim Hortons? Bears? Buffalos? Gus Pike from Road to Avonlea? Burton Cummings? Pure, unfiltered Canadiana! They’re even hitting my hometown of Thunder Bay Ontario. Give ’em love and Persians a-plenty, friends!

Persians are these b-t-dubs

Persian

Whuh-oh. I just reference two completely different iconic Canadian pastries in one post. Did I just diabetes the internet?

(*reference is French Canadian for referenced)
