WAR. RUSSIA. EBOLA. RUSSIA. CRACK SMOKING MUNICIPAL POLITICIANS. RUSSIA. MISSING PASSENGER JETS. RUSSIA. SEX OFFENDERS. RUSSIA. KANYE’S WAR AGAINST WHEELCHAIRS. RUSSIA. WINTER OLYMPICS DOG MURDER SQUADS. RUSSIA. Oh my!

And most of all… CANADIAN COMEDY!

The year of our Lord two thousand and fourteen has just about pissed its last, and what better way to close ‘er out than a night of chuckles and knee-slappers from Patty Mack and his usual crew of Toronto crowd killers!? Yes, Scenesters, we’re of course talkin’ bout the New Year’s Eve instalment of PAT MACDONALD’s ‘SUPERSTARS OF COMEDY

Superstars NYE

It’s been another haymaker year for Pat and the crew on the main stage at Toronto’s famous COMEDY BAR. Sold out shows, stacked double headers. So it goes without saying that old ‘Patty Cigs’ has gone and lined up a year-end rib-cracker that’s booked up tighter than a meth addict’s gum line.

First up, you’ve got Pat MacDonald himself. No milky pudding, this kid’s got the magic chops. I don’t know what any of that last analogy meant, but I’m not about to be edited by YOU. This is the Scene Magazine Comedy Affairs Desk, dammit. Dean runs this rag!

Point is, Patty Boy had a solid year. When he wasn’t busy producing this monthly bad boy, he was out there touring the stages of Toronto and beyond. Hitting the club circuit as one of the best & brightest new comics on the infamous Yuk Yuks roster. He also dedicated his Sunday nights to the almost Saint-like task of running a booked open mic comedy show in one of the most Scarboro’y bars that Scarboro ever Scarboro’d. Did I nearly step on a needle in the parking lot one Sunday night last summer while walking into the joint? Yes. Did I also NOT learn my lesson and step on a used condom the very next Sunday while wearing new Birkenstocks fresh from a trek to Iceland? Yes, also true. Well OK, they weren’t Birkenstocks they were from Payless – but I’m trying to paint a picture for you, Scenesters. A picture painted with a frothy mix of semen and crowd-work, splashed across the asphalt canvas of those hot Scarborough nights. It was a rough show. Scrappy, dirty – but loveable. Performing there always made you feel like you’d done something worthwhile for the greater good. Like adopting an alley cat (I should know, I played that room often. AND I adopted two actual alley cats that same summer)

But Pat’s not the only draw to this monthly onslaught of crowd killers. They put the ‘laughter’ in “onslaughter”, which is a word I just made up because I can! As I explained earlier. And also partly because I’m just tired.

Joining the Superstars on stage this New Year’s Eve, one of Toronto’s fastest rising young comics in 2014 (and a fellow alum of the ‘Toronto Comedy All-Stars’) NITISH SAKHUJA.

With special guest host DARRYL PURVIS. And closing it all out (and in fact, the whole motherchucklin’ year) the man behind a whole SHIT TON of Canadian comedy this year with Sirius XM’s Canada Laughs  BEN MINER (Just for Laughs, No Kidding). Some of this scene’s finest, hand picked for you this New Year’s Eve. We’ve told you before, we’ll say it again – PATTY CIGS knows his stuff.
