Comedy Uncovered

One-man brand TAYLOR ERWIN (Comedy Uncovered) has been producing his consistently packed monthly showcase of sketch and standup on the main stage of Toronto’s famous Comedy Bar, since 2012. The same year he launched the show’s companion page and online comedy resource ‘Comedy Uncovered’. Or did the site come first? Or was it a yin and yang type deal?

Either way. Comedy Uncovered quickly became the ‘IMDb’ of the Toronto standup scene. An online resource for all things comedy right here in Canada’s comedy capital. Bios, interviews, show listings, plugs, clips, downloads – all things hilarious, obsessively curated for your easy access. We first featured Comedy Uncovered in these very pages back in the spring of 2013, when I met Taylor in a west end coffee shop (conveniently down the street from Comedy Bar, and another comedians’ watering hole and show spot ‘Tallboys Beer House’) He was fast and frenetic, talking with the manic energy of pure fandom on local comics he wanted to help expose to the outside world. Amen.

Every month Erwin hand picks a balanced breakfast of standup, sketch & improv phenoms to take the stage at Comedy Bar. No two shows are ever the same… well, except for the poster. He really just updates the poster. But when you’ve got a sure thing, why mess with it?

This month Comedy Uncovered bids bon voyage to local weirdo and London-bound DYLAN GOTT. The master fartsmith behind the ‘Sports Brahs Podcast’, and a recent run on 102.1 The Edge, Gott is headed for the Fishmongers’ wharfs and pie shoppes of cloudy old Britain. But first, he’s guest hosting a star-studded edition of Comedy Uncovered all for YOU!

Then, renowned sketch super-troupe PRIMO. Between the cast members they have a collected (gulp) 7 Canadian Comedy Awards!

And speaking of those (Canadian Comedy Awards) ALLISON HOGG is one-half of the CCA nominated sketch duo ‘Ladystache’, whose 2014 album So Many Wolves shot to the top of the itunes charts in a matter of minutes! Well OK, not minutes maybe. But the album blew up

And if that isn’t enough of a lineup for you, Scenesters (if that is the way you feel, I’m disappointed in all of you) Comedy Uncovered closes out the January show with a juicy, hilarious cherry on top. TIM GILBERT (Laugh Sabbath) released his recent album Please Help Me I Am Very Sick, recorded over a 2-night stand at Toronto’s cult comedy room The Ossington. He’s one of the city’s most coveted ‘comics’ comics’ but he should also be known as one of Canada’s comics. All in due time. This past summer he opened up for Todd Barry at ‘JFL42 in July‘ over a weekend at Comedy Bar (along with fellow Sabbath’er, Sabathee?) Sara Hennessey. Solid show all around, and to me Tim Gilbert stole the show. But, don’t take my word for it – see him tonight, at Toronto’s famous Comedy Bar.

It’s all about building a scene, Scenesters. This has been an official dispatch from the SCENE MAGAZINE COMEDY AFFAIRS DESK   For all things Comedy Uncovered scroll and click on
