Back in November, the day I reluctantly pointed my weather-beaten compass towards the uncharted new territory of 32 years ‘Young’ (it is right there in the name after all) and moved away from the hostile waters of my 31st year, I celebrated with what was maybe one of my most memorable shows of 2015.

But it wasn’t all about me that night, and neither is this plug – as much as I’d like to sway popular opinion in my wind direction! Enough with the sailing metaphors? You got it, cap’n.

The show I so fondly recall happened on-stage at Toronto’s iconic Hard Rock Cafe. A stacked bill playing to a packed room of film & TV dignitaries. A hot & heavy who’s-who of Hollywood North.

The whole haymaker was lined up and laid down by The Actor Advantage Program, in support of Performing Arts Lodge. Basically, giving good shelter and respectful assistance to Canada’s performers (past and present) in times of need. That’s right, here on our scene we look after our own. Or at least that’s the idea. That’s what PAL is all about

Hosted by the manic multi-talent (and possibly the last living Viking) Lars Classington – comedian, actor, and all around renaissance man. The night was mayhem. High-voltage, hilarious mayhem. With sketch, standup, improv – and a few odd numbers from Classington thrown in for good measure (yes, he’s a musician too in case we neglected to mention that). I ended my own set (20-odd minutes of pure birthday catharsis) by downing whiskey on stage with Classington while the crowd belted ‘Happy Birthday’. HBD, indeed. It was quite a night, and just the right medicine turn end the night newly 32.

Well, they’re back again. The Actor Advantage Program presents Lars & company, with another all-star line-up all lined up for a damn good cause. Featuring Ryan Hillis (Premier Comedy Club) Al Val (London Tonight, Absolute Comedy) Danny Polishchuk (iChannel, Absolute Comedy) Nelu Handa (Yas Kween, United Talent Agency) Amanda Day (StonedUpComedy, Date Fail) Patrick Haye (Yuk Yuks, Underground Comedy Railroad) and Toronto favorite Monty Scott (Comedy Records)

Featuring sketch from Paddy ‘N Rob and the L’il RasGals.

And of course, your powerhouse MC Lars Classington.
