Style: Melodic Death Metal

Crowd: The crowd was hungry for more when The Black Dahlia Murder took the stage. It took 3 or 4 songs for the fans to get as rowdy as they were for Skeletonwitch, but once they got there, there was no stopping them. Circle pits and moshpits and crowd surfing was happening all at once, some even got lucky enough to jump on stage and rock out with the musicians, before jumping back into the crowd’s open arms.

Sex appeal/image: The Black Dahlia are a funny band. They draw their inspiration mostly from horror flicks and they don’t take themselves too seriously. And that translates well into their stage presence, especially with Trevor Strnad (vocals) looking like a metal version of Jack Black. Soon after the beginning of the set he took of his shirt revealing a tattoo spelling out “heartburn” across his stomach.

Memorable Moment: However funny and nonchalant these guys might look, they are great musicians. It was great to hear Strnad flawlessly go from high shrieks to deep growls, and Ryan Knight (guitar) executing those solos note for note live. The whole set was entertaining to watch, I would only suggest to make sure that the opening band doesn’t outshine them next time they are on tour.
