Aerosmith - I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing
Aerosmith’s 1998 smash hit “I don’t wanna miss a thing” from the Armageddon soundtrack was written by Grammy Award winning songstress Diane Warren.   While Warren herself is not Canadian, she has been known to write for superstar Celine Dion and reportedly penned this song with Dion in mind.

2. CSNY – Woodstock
CSNY - Woodstock

CSNY’s counterculture anthem “Woodstock” was originally penned by Joni Mitchell.   Mitchell passed on attending the festival in order to appear on the Dick Cavett Show. She pieced together the song from what she saw on television.  Ironically “she captured the feeling and importance of the Woodstock festival better than anyone who’d been there” according to David Crosby and conceived a theme that has become synonymous with the legendary festival.

3. Kelly Clarkson – Breakaway

Beyonce’s number one hit “Irreplacaeable” was originally a country song!    Co-producer Ne-Yo wrote the song in a country style for Chrisette Michele with Shania Twain’s tonality in mind.  However when the production team Eriksen and Hermansen laid down the drums the song changed.

5. Katy Perry – Roar
Katy Perry - Roar
Katy Perry’s 6x Platinum smash hit “Roar” was written by Canadian hit maker Henry Russell Walter.   Walter, known professionally as Cirkut, lives in Toronto and is from Halifax NS.   The 28 year old has also written a few other tracks you may have heard of including: Flo Rida’s “Good Feeling”, all of Kesha’s “Warrior” album and the forever overplayed “Wrecking Ball” from Miley Cyrus.   Not bad for a kid growing up in the Maritimes eh!?
