The Rural Alberta Advantage March 27th 2015

Who: The Rural Alberta Advantage
When: Friday, March 27th @8pm
Where: The Marquee Ballroom, 2037 Gottingen Street
Tickets: $23/$26

Folk rockers The Rural Alberta Advantage have a big time show at the Marquee this weekend. The much talked about 3-piece have been nominated or short listed for every major music award in Canada and absolutely rip live. Their last stop in town was a sold out St. Matthew’s Church (aka the best venue in the city) so they’ve stepped it up with the much bigger Marquee to play some new tunes from their 2014 release Mended With Gold.

Busty and the Bass March 12th 2015

Who: Busty and the Bass
When: Thursday, March 12th @7pm
Where: The Seahorse Tavern, 2037 Gottingen Street
Tickets: $10

Nine-piece fuck group Busty and the Bass bring the jams to Halifax this week. This crew is a mix of music students from across North America who met while attending McGill University. They won the 2014 Rock Your Campus competition as Canada’s best university band and the right to open for Arkells in Montreal (as well as some mad duckets). Their music is energetic and groovy as fuck, so if you were planning to see the Mellotones at the Seahorse Thursday night, do yourself a favour and pop in a bit early for Busty.

PS. If you like what you hear, their album is a free download on their website. Its awesome.

Matthew Hornell February 26th 2015

Who: Matthew Hornell
When: Thursday, February 26th @9pm
Where: Rogues Roost, 5435 Spring Garden Road
Tickets: $5

I won’t deny the fact that I love Matthew Hornell. And no, it has nothing to do with the amazing poker playing bear music video I made for the guy (though you should totally watch it below). The slight Newfi has an incredibly booming voice beyond his years. It rumbles in your chest and reverberates through your stomach like good music should. He’s a folk singer/songwriter of the highest regard and though its been awhile since his last album, those old tunes hold true two years on and are worth a listen every time this fella hits the town.

Waka Flocka Flame February 13th 2015

Who: Waka Flocka Flame
When: Friday, February 13th @8pm
Where: The Marquee Ballroom, 2037 Gottingen Street
Tickets: $25

American rapper Waka Flocka Flame washes up on our shores just in time for Valentines Day. Treat your sweetheart to the sounds of “Fuck Shit” and “Obituary”, for what could be more romantic?! Honestly though, Waka is one of those rappers who a) you can understand b) you can seriously jam to and c) keeps it real. Should be a dope show packed with local hip hop talent as well.

Hey Rosetta! January 30th 2015

Who: Hey Rosetta!
When: Friday, January 30th @8pm
Where: Rebecca Cohn, 6101 University Ave
Tickets: $36.50/$41.50

Everyone’s favourite newfi rockers Hey Rosetta! are back in town touring their new album, Second Sight. Better still, their show is at the epicly epic Rebecca Cohn so can you imagine the sound quality of this show? What the Cohn lacks in “stand up and dance-ability”, it makes up for in “holy crap, I didn’t know music could sound that magical”. So its going to be bonkers. Always a big draw for their energetic indie rock stylings, Hey Rosetta! are practically honorary Haligonians, so make sure you get out to see em before they head down to the States, where they are fast becoming gods as well.
