When: Tonight! 8pm doors on Friday, June 12th

Where: Pressed (750 Gladstone Ave.)

Price: $9 advanced

905’s Coldfront will be rolling through Ottawa tonight on their tour with Take Heart from Vancouver, and you can be sure there will be many jokes being made about weather. The show will be opened by Ottawa’s very own Crack Mansions (the band, not a literal home for very rich drug abusers) and Tensile. Watch these bands rock Pressed with their instruments and loud music, because nothing goes better with a rainy Friday than emo music.

Based out of London (the real deal London, not the Ontario city), hip-hop/trap unit Stooki Sound is gracing Ritual Nightclub this Saturday for the last Canadian stop of their North American tour. A combination of DJ Lukey and Jelacee, Stooki has been killing it in the UK and now the are spreading the love internationally.

The event will have some familiar faces too, as Ottawa’s DJ Jelanie Lewis and HVYHNDS warm up the stage.

Check out the Facebook event for more details. For a solid sample of what Stooki Sound does, you can visit their Soundcloud. It’s their first time in Canada, so let’s make them feel the northern love.

CANVAS and Empty Shelves at Avant-Garde Bar – Pick Of The Week – March 27, 2015

Who: Appearances by CANVAS and Empty Shelves

What: The Ottawa stop of the Sticktoitiveness release tour

When: Friday, March 27, 2015 — Doors open 9pm

Where: Avant-Garde Bar (135 Besserer St.)

Price: $6 at the door

Celebrating the release of their debut LP Sticktoitiveness, Toronto indie-rock band CANVAS is hitting up Ottawa this week. The album is a piece of indie art with more than enough synth and danceable beats to go around. You can hear Sticktoitiveness via the internet but if you want to experience the magic live you will have to go to the ever-classy Avant-Garde Bar, where cover will be cheaper than the cocktails.

See below for a full list of Sticktoitiveness tour dates and a new lyric video from the album.

Vendies promo posterThe Ven Dreddies and Muffler Crunch at House of Targ – Pick Of The Week – Friday, March 20,2015

Who: The Ven Dreddies and Muffler Crunch with Criticull

What: Three local bands, one night, more pinball than you can handle.

When: Friday, March 20, 2015 — Doors open 9pm

Where: House of Targ (1077 Bank St.)

Price: $8 at the door

A monkey, an elephant and a lion, all in tuxedos, lean over a plate of perogies. This has to be either the opening line of a joke, or the promotional poster for a show at House of Targ. Luckily for you, it’s the second one.

promo 2Friday is going to be energized and upbeat when Ottawa’s very own Ven Dreddies march into House of Targ. This is a band that calls themselves: “disco-funk-fusion with a little bit of space-rock-punk,” and honestly, I can not think of a better way to describe what they do. You can find a few sample tunes on their website, I suggest the punk-cover of “Stand By Me” in particular.

Gatineau two-piece metal band Muffler Crunch and funk-metal group Critical round out the night. The show runs until 2am, so be prepared to stay up past your bedtime, and make sure you bring your dancing shoes. Check out the event page for more details.

When: Saturday, March 14, 2015 — Doors open 7:30pm

This Saturday is pure metal at Pressed when Fayne arrives for the first stop of their “Make Your Way Back Home” tour. As the name suggests, this tour brings the five-piece group across Ontario before bringing the band back to their Montreal hometown on March 27. Expect to hear songs from their 2014 album The Queen of Kings.

Pressed also has a trio of Ontario metal groups opening the night, from Ominous Eclipse’s screeching guitar solos to Majora’s hopefully Zelda-inspired riffs.

This is a 19+ event, so grab your ID and leave your kids behind.

Hit up Pressed this Saturday if you want to see Fayne tear it up in Ottawa, if you would rather see them play in someone’s creepy (but surprisingly spacious) attic, check out their video for ‘Believers’ here.
