Today is a good day where I am! The sun is shining, my sciatica pains are in remission, and the new Halfsleeper joint is blaring, T-G-I-F am I right?

After playing a few shows last fall Halflseeper are hitting Spring full-force, and today you can finally hear their debut self-titled EP in it’s entirety. They’ve been the talk of the town since releasing a new video for the track “The Great Repression” earlier this month and opening for Enter Shikari on tour with Hands Like Houses and The White Noise last week. The dudes are no strangers to the Ottawa scene however, having jammed in many notable local groups over the years.

“I still can’t define us to any genre because we draw from so many different elements and each song we write is its own thing,” says drummer Liam Piamonte, who produced and recorded most of the songs himself. “This record drove me insane because I kept going back and reworking parts and obsessing over little things both in the writing and recording process.

“I’m really happy with the outcome and I feel like it’s the best work both in writing and production that I’ve been a part of.”

Piamonte along with Waylon Fearn on vocals, Dave Kastner playing guitar and viola, and Nick Turenne on bass, have managed to create a definitive yet lucid sound, through obsession and experience, plus a little of what I call gumption. In a scene where everyone chases the same thing, it pays to be different.

(P.S. If you find them on Instagram you can get a discount on the already cheap EP.)
