On January 9, 2015, Ottawa band PINE released their debut three-track EP. The demo, entitled you bury me emits a hazy post-emo vibe, sending the listener into a melancholy dream of heartbreak, narrated by soothing vocals.

You bury me delivers a consistent feeling of tasteful sadness and desire; the three songs fit together beautifully as though they tell a story from beginning to end. It starts off with a quiet disposition of yearning, climbing to the end with a frantic sense of urgency. The album hits its climax throughout the track “father//layla”, with a simple and sweet beginning, which leads to a passionate plea for love and understanding the complexities of others.

PINE is making their mark in the Ottawa music scene and will be playing with Balance and Composure at Ritual on January 15.

Then you can see PINE on tour through Southern Ontario with First Ghost and iris in February.

If you are looking for something to enhance nostalgic feelings through the winter blues, PINE’s you bury me is a good start.

Brianna Harris
