The Rob Roy Pub, billed as George Streets first bar, is one of the hot spots on the street to this day. Known for its weeknight specials and live music, the Rob Roy is situated in the heart of the George Street entertainment district, with an excellent view of the famous street stage. The place to party the best of times, things get extra crowded during the various street festivals as patrons pour in for drinks and the perfect vantage point of their favorite live acts during Canada Day, George Street Festival, and the Mardi Gras.

The pub itself is rather small, but that is part of its lively charm. Upon entry the stage area and dance floor are to the right, with a big garage door style window in front that opens onto the patio. The bar is straight ahead when you walk in and it’s against the left wall. Some seating, VLT machines, and washrooms are located in the rear, plus there are stairs leading up to Duckworth Street as well as upstairs to Konfusion, the sister bar of the Rob Roy that is more dance oriented.

The Rob Roy Pub is very well known these days for their weeknight drink specials from Tuesday to Friday nights. Twoonie Tuesday’s feature beer and drinks for $2 along with live music and DJ’s. Wednesday nights are Refill Wednesdays and the drinks are buy one get one free, along with live entertainment. 345 Thursdays are by far the most popular night at the Rob Roy, especially with the student population who love a deal on drinks. From 10pm to 1am, beer and liquor drinks are 3 for $5, plus there’s live music. Friday nights are billed as Fridays for de Ladies, where ladies receive 2 free drinks at the door after paying cover and additional drinks are $2.75.

If you’re looking for an upbeat bar on George Street, with drink prices you can actually afford, the Rob Roy Pub is the place to go. Both the Rob Roy and upstairs bar Konfusion are available to book for special events as well. Not a bad place to have a party as you’d likely end up downtown anyway. Check out the Rob Roy the next time you’re planning a night out on George street.
