The Gathering: Fire-Food-Music  – In Burlington Newfoundland – August 23-25th

The Gathering NL

The Gathering, a two day, three night festival happening off the beaten track in Burlington on the Baie Verte Peninsula  August 23-25th, is a unique new summer event. In a season filled to the brim with parties, music, and good food, The Gathering is a celebration of all of these things as they relate to Newfoundlands individual culture. Presented by Burlington’s hometown boy, actor/comedian Shaun Majumder and friends, The Gathering came together as the launch event for BSM Manor, which is a non-profit organization fronted by Majumder himself. BSM Manor is dedicated to the economic growth of the Baie Verte Peninsula through tourism development and promotion as well as supporting entrepreneurs in the area. Examples of projects slated for development include a community greenhouse, luxury camp sites as well as cabins, a lodge and a restaurant in the Burlington-Smith’s Harbour-Middle Arm area.

The tagline from The Gathering is Fire-Food-Music and the idea is to bring people from all over together for a summer weekend of camping, food, music and a roaring camp fire. The twist is this isn’t your typical weekend of Vienna sausages and fried bologna on a Coleman stove. The Gathering has enlisted a lineup of some of the best chefs in the province to utilize locally sourced ingredients for some world class dining. These chefs will also lead workshops on topics such as working with greenhouse vegetables, saving seeds, preserves and more. Sounds like a dream weekend for a foodie.

Then there’s the music lineup, which features Jim Cuddy of the legendary Blue Rodeo and his family band featuring his sons Sam and Devin Cuddy, who also have a band of their own. Rex Goudie, who hails from Burlington, will also be performing along with other local favorites such as Brian Byrne, formerly of I Mother Earth, singer-songwriter Adam Baxter plus many more. There will be performances from plenty of local talent and there are surprises in store as well.

This exciting event is sure to sell out fast and hopefully catch on and be a summer favorite. Happy Camping!
