Toronto’s Like Pacific announce record deal, new album

Toronto punk band Like Pacific announced last week that they signed with California’s Pure Noise Records and Canadian label New Damage Records. Since 2009 Like Pacific has been laying claim to the Greater Toronto Area through their decisive pop punk riffs, cordially brassy vocals, and trendy coolness.

They announced they will be releasing a self-titled EP in the new year on January 20. You can check out the new tune “Suffering” now.

Bassist Chris Thaung says they are excited to see all their hardwork pay off. Thaung, along with vocalist Jordan Black have finally found their sound after an excessive member search, with drummer Dillon Forret and guitarists Greg Hall and Luke Holmes.

Here is what Thaung had to say about the news.

Why do you think Like Pacific is ready now to be signed?

We’ve been at it for years. We have had a ton of ups and downs, from half-ass tours to rotting vehicles to a rotating door of members. We have been through it all! We have learned so much about being in a band and what it entails and what we are physically capable of. Five years is a long time, so Jordan and I definitely have a good grasp of this band by now.

What’s different than before?

We are super thrilled about our band being on a bigger platform now. Our music and live shows will reach far more people than ever before. It’s awesome that we have a team of great people who handle everything from booking to press to actually releasing our music. It’s such a huge relief that we don’t have to handle stuff like that anymore and can solely focus on the fun stuff like writing and getting tighter as a band.

What has been your experience with Pure Noise and New Damage so far?

Both labels have been super rad. Jake (PN) and Rich (NDR) have so much experience by now, so we’re confident with how they will handle our band. They have signed a majority of our favourite bands and all of them seem to be doing real well. It is definitely comforting to know that we’re backed by two labels who have proven success.

What are your expectations like?

We plan on working just as hard as the labels will. They’re giving us a platform to showcase our band, but we have to make sure we make an impact with our music and live shows. Lots of writing and lots of practice.

You can preorder the new album here.
