Who: Ron Sexsmith
From: St. Catharine’s/Toronto, ON
When: Friday, March 22, 10:00 p.m.
Where: The Randolph Theatre

Crowd: He was what they came for. The line looped around the Randolph when I got there, and all the conversations around me only said one thing: that these 30 and 40-somethings were really, really excited to see Ron Sexsmith. His presence onstage helped them come alive–they whooped and cheered before and after every song. He played several songs of off his latest album, Forever Endeavour, to which the people responded with the adult version of screaming and a fist pump–by sitting down quietly and actually listening to the songs.

Style: Folk/pop. Sexsmith started with a sweet acoustic set before bringing the entire band onstage for the rest of the show.

Technicalities: Flawless.

Sex appeal: Though still somewhat baby-faced and slightly nervous, Ron Sexsmith remains Canada’s Top Babe. It’s in the name. We all know who the man is. And frankly, it doesn’t matter if he’s wearing a ratty grey blazer or a fancy grey blazer (it was the latter)–he looks great and probably feels like the banging rock star that he is.

Memorable moment: Frankly, the entire show was a memorable moment.

Comments: I pity the fool who wasn’t there.
