Rosie the Rebel Boutique is downtown St. Johns newest clothing store.

Recently opened inJuly 2011, this store is a Vintage boutique unlike any other. It is for those with a love for the past and an artists heart. According to their Facebook site, they will be featuring Rising Canadian designers and artists as the perfect complement to their high quality, hand selected Vintage. On top of that they are also carrying Vintage reproduction brands like Stop Staring, Bettie page clothing and Collectif. Although you can find this boutique style clothing online, it’s a different experience to try it all on and find products you like in the stores themselves.

Walking in you will be greeted by their friendly staff and the jazzy music playing in the background, for myself a lover of nostalgia and art; its a paradise of a store. It was the first glimpse through the window that made me walk in. When I saw the 1940s looking clothes and the Marilyn Monroe art staring at me, I just had to walk through the threshold to see what this was all about.

The friendly staff are there to greet you with suggestions of sizes and are all up for what you as a customer are interested in seeing in their store, or whatever has your fancy. If they dont have it on your first visit theyre sure to have it next time.

With new shipments in weekly this place is booming. Every time I step foot inside, there is always a small crowd of vintage con-assures browsing the inventory.

If youre reading this article boys and thinking oh this just sounds like girls 1940s, 50s inspired clothing youd be interested to find that this store has a section for you too, with very cool ties & shirts.

I had a chance to catch up with the owner of the store, Elle Guthrie, a native of Newfoundland whose studies in textiles and fashion design inspired her to turn a dream into a reality.

Ive always loved this vintage style and once I went to do fashion design school, it was just the right time this past July to bring a dream into a reality, and Im impressed because so far its going very well. Weve had a very warm welcome.

Checking out their Facebook site I noticed just last evening that there were already 908 followers on the page, and I was informed by Elle, that its now exceeded 920 something. Theyre rooting for a 1000 and then plan to have a celebration. Using this social media page, they post updates on the store hours daily and the shipments letting their customers know whats in store. Soon with the launch of their own website where you will even be able to order online and over the phone

The feeling of this boutique is great, you can walk in there and a friendly face greets you with a warm smile, from being in there only a few times I definitely will be back and have been spreading the word to all I met to say Hey you have check out these boutiques in raleigh.

To place the feel its like your stepping into your own closet with some help from your friends to piece together an outfit that is truly your own unique style.

So if youre looking for something thats a little unique and want to support local talent take a drop by and hook up with the girls at Rosie the Rebel Boutique, youll be sure to find something to suit your fancy and you wont go home empty handed.
