Shevil @ Distortion

My first take on this venue was an intimate setting where it seemed everybody knows your name, the regulars flocked in first chatting it up with the owner and the bartender. While the bands set up. There was much anticipated hype. Each band had their following.

The first band took the stage and the crowd started eating out of their hands from the first note played of their electric guitars. Crack the Foundation is a fairly recent band having only been formed in 2009 however, one would think theyve been playing together forever, for each member complemented the other perfectly without overpowering. Playing all originals these guys blew the crowd away. Half way through the first song people were already head banging and swaying to the melodic riffs. Their sound has been described as Pink Floyd meeting Metallica and Jimmy Hendrix which is a mash up mix but works catering to everyone.

As the night went on the bands got louder and band number two on the docket was Crowface, an Indie/psychedelic band and local favorites. With the ferocious vocal power of Dale Drew (ex CONA MIP of Stephenville fame) at the helm, these guys have a fan base. As it drew closer to their performance the people flocked in and yes it was clear that this was THE band to see tonight!

Band three for the night; Wizards of Kaos stole the show musically. These guys were awesome every song the crowd loved and more came up to mosh, dance, head bang. The guitarists totally played to the crowd, one might say he would give Slash a run for his money with his guitar solos.

Last up and the headliners for the evening were SHEVIL, a Moncton NB based band that has become very popular. To put it simply these guys will blow your mind with their mixture of doom metal and melodic vocals.

SHEVIL hosts a conundrum of east coast rockers such as PJ Dunphy from the Iron Giant/Motorleague schools and Kyle McDonald founder of Cabin Studios in Moncton…it’s strange and it’s a beautiful thing!

With an influence list on their Facebook page that says only “The Melvins! & Goatsnake!” one is not sure to run in with open arms or run out to the hills!

However, as soon as they played the first note the floors of the building shook the sound of 3 bases and drums can only be described as thunder crashing, one could feel every beat to the very core of their bones shaking. The vocals with the vibrato only added to the sound.

I believe McDonald of SHEVIL said it best when he said this was the Loudest show on the Rock.
