THE LONELY NIGHTS OF BRUCE DOUGLAS

Bruce Douglas.

Jokesmith. Lover. Podcaster.

Bruce Douglas is a golden-voiced man of *many hats (metaphorical only). And when he’s in-studio on his cult classic comedy podcast Lonely Nights with Bruce Douglas, he’s the quintessential straight-man to an endless cast of improvised oddballs, outcasts, perverts and misfits.

Set to the soft sounds of a midnight Jazz tempo, Bruce’s understated cadence washes over the airwaves in a nervous deadpan drone. With new episodes every Tuesday on the TALKHOLE podcast network, Bruce starts off every installment of Lonely Nights with a meandering pre-amble. Preparing his audience’s ears for the interview at hand.

Since it launched in the summer of 2012, Lonely Nights has featured a who’s-who of upcoming Toronto comics and writers playing a wide and weird and downright f*cked up assortment of 100% improvised characters. With a handful of fan favorites, shock-comedy show regulars, and reviled returning guests.

A slimy porn magnate. A murderous child prodigy. A Dutch Children’s Television presenter. A bachelor with a hilarious yet crippling sexual dysfunction. A high school guidance counselor. A hack comedian who writes adult erotica. And the occasional obscure celebrity (angry Jimmy Stewart, Christophe Waltz, 3 different John Malkovich’s and a version of Matthew McConaughey who permanently has the flu)

Lonely Nights is (we think) an under-appreciated, under-listened gem. Until now!

The show that’s spawned an entire three seasons worth of insanely specific niche characters created by comedians who might be just a little broken inside, is hitting the stage.

This Friday, Lonely Nights records LIVE at Toronto’s famous Comedy Bar. Part of the live podcast series on TALKHOLE.

Joining Bruce on-stage, a lineup of classic recurring characters played by Toronto comics Dean Young (The Scene, Talkhole) Merv Hartlen (Halifax Pop Festival) Darren Springer (Fresh Meat) and Michael Kellett

All 100% in character. We just aren’t at liberty to say which characters.

With opening standup from Comedy Bar’s resident Chuckle Co. castmember MIKEY KOLBERG (pictured)
